Essentials

Essentials: Lifeline Inspections, Bird Control & Steel Structure Work

Beyond facade and supply work, Aparejo covers the essential upkeep that keeps a building safe, compliant, and pest-free: lifeline inspections, bird control, and steel structure repair. These are the services that don’t get noticed until they’re overdue: an out-of-date lifeline certificate, a pigeon-fouled ledge, or a corroding steel beam. We handle all three under one contractor, using the same rope access team and PE sign-off process as the rest of our work.

Whether you’re a homeowner maintaining a landed property or a facility manager keeping an MCST or industrial site compliant, our Essentials services are built to be scheduled, documented, and repeated, not just a one-off fix.

Essentials Services

Lifeline Inspection Services

If your building has a horizontal or vertical lifeline system for window cleaning, facade maintenance, or rope access work, it needs to be inspected at least once every 12 months by a competent person, and re-certified at set intervals as the system ages. We inspect, load-test, and certify lifeline systems so your building stays compliant and safe for whoever uses the line next, including our own team.

What We Check

Component

What We Inspect

Anchor Points

Corrosion, deformation, and secure fixing to the parent structure

Cable / Wire Rope

Wear, cuts, kinks, corrosion, and correct tension

Connectors & Terminations

Integrity of end fittings, shackles, and tensioners

Energy Absorbers

Signs of prior fall arrest activation requiring replacement

Shuttle / Glider Movement

Smooth, unobstructed travel along the full length of the line

Our Lifeline Inspection Process

Document review of the system's installation date, last inspection, and manufacturer requirements.

Full visual and functional inspection of anchors, cable, connectors, and hardware.

Load / pull-out testing where required by the system's certification interval.

Tagging of any component that fails inspection as out of service, with a repair or replacement recommendation.

PE endorsement of the completed inspection.

Handover of the certification record for your compliance files or BCA/MCST submission.

Bird Control

Pigeons and other pest birds damage ledges, block drains, and leave droppings that corrode metal and stain facades over time. We supply and install bird deterrent systems using our rope access team, which means ledges, signboards, and rooflines that would normally need a cherry picker or scaffold can be treated directly.

Bird Control Methods We Install

Method

Best For

Bird Netting

Full exclusion of balconies, courtyards, rooftops, and open service areas

Bird Spikes

Ledges, parapets, signboards, and window sills where birds land and roost

Anti-Perching Wire

Discreet deterrence on architecturally sensitive or heritage-facing facades

Our Bird Control Process

Site assessment to identify nesting points, roosting spots, and the scale of the issue.

Recommendation of the right method or combination for the property type and area.

Installation via rope access for ledges and rooflines that are otherwise hard to reach.

Clean-up of existing droppings and nesting debris where required.

Follow-up check to confirm the deterrent is holding and no gaps remain.

Steel Structure Work

Exposed steel, support beams, canopy frames, signage structures, and external staircases corrode and weaken faster in Singapore’s climate than most owners expect. We handle steel structure inspection, repair, and reinforcement, working via rope access where the steelwork sits at height, with PE sign-off for any structural repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does a lifeline system need to be inspected in Singapore?

At minimum, once every 12 months by a competent person, with re-certification required at longer intervals as the system ages. We track your due dates and issue a PE-endorsed report after every inspection.

Are your bird control methods humane and NEA-compliant?

Yes. We use netting, spikes, and anti-perching wire that follow NEA and AVS guidelines, targeting only recognised pest bird species without harming them.

Do you provide PE certification for steel structure repairs?

Yes. Any structural repair or reinforcement work is signed off with a PE-stamped report, which you can use for BCA submission or insurance documentation.

Can lifeline inspection and steel repairs be done without scaffolding?

In most cases, yes. Our IRATA-trained rope access team can inspect and repair anchors, lifelines, and steelwork at height directly, without the cost and time of erecting a scaffold.

Do you serve HDB, MCST, commercial, and industrial properties?

Yes. We take on Essentials work across residential (HDB, condo, landed), MCST-managed developments, commercial buildings, and industrial sites.

What do I receive after an inspection or repair job?

A written report covering what was inspected or repaired, any components tagged for follow-up, and a PE-stamped certificate where structural sign-off applies, kept on file for your next compliance check.
